The best screen resolutions for which the Website should built for
Just a couple of days back i picked some stats via google analytics to find out the frequently used Screen Resolution by the users visiting my site .
The Blog post illustrates the stats of this site and talk about the screen resolutions that website should target for .

The Stats illustrated that 800 x 600 , one time famous screen resolution is not in top 10 .
The Screenshot/stats can vary for different websites ..
The 1024 x 768 is still in the Top 10 of my site stats . I personally see this being most commonly used screen resolution by a normal user ..
The High Resolution screens are indeed becoming more popular and is getting cheaper when compared few years ago and with new screen resolution updates , what would be an ideal screen resolution you website should be built or targetted for ?
With this comes another question . The resolutions also differ from Computers to Mobile Devices … So , i feel it makes sense for the website to be designed not just for Desktop SCreens but also Mobile Screens . I highlighted this because i saw a screen resolution 320 x 480 which was ranked No.11 for my site..
What’s your take on it ?
1024×768 is our company’s minimum screen resolution supported for our software products. Our Laptop users are keeping it at this minimum. I would have thought from anecdotal evidence that this would have been in the top three. Interesting. What’s the resolution of an average 10″ tablet device?
For websites, it’s almost impossible to support mobile and desktop resolutions. 320×480 is just too big a jump to expect to scale. But I don’t like the idea of developing “mobile” and “full” versions. I personally develop for desktop only as mobile device browsers seem to be doing a good job and aspire to browsing the full web, so I’m leaving them solve the problem
I won’t jump in with an opinion of what resolution websites should be designed for.
But I will caution that statistics from your website’s Google Analytics are probably not representative of the general population. From my observation, geeks and programmers (said with respect) usually have better equipment than the general populace. High-Res and Widescreen monitors are more prevalent amongst the programming set.
There must be a publicly available data that can be used.
The 320-by-480 is interesting… unless all those hits came from one reader.
interesting fact, thanks for sharing it.
